Vertra uses "physical blockers" that are mineral based, to protect against both UVB and UVA ultraviolet rays from the sun. This results in a broad spectrum range of product with the highest FDA allowable water resistancy rating of 80 minutes.

Hawaii has set a ground breaking legislative ban on the selling of any sunscreens that contain Oxybenzone and Octinoxate. Key West Florida has now followed with a similar ban.

All Vertra Products are mineral based sunscreens with “non-nanotized” zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Non-nanotized means the ingredients are 100 nanometers in diameter or more. Studies show these larger particles to be safer for coral reefs than their chemical counterparts, which are typically under 100 nanometers. A nanometer reading below 100 is considered microscopic and is more easily absorbed by reef and marine life creating disruption.

Vertra's non-nano particles allow us to offer the most effective UVA & UVB broad spectrum protection, while still being safe for reef environments.
